Asshole of the Week

That’s right.  I have named the  ”pope” as the asshole of the week.  May the powers that be strike me down where I stand.  Why did I do this?

He almost makes my list every week anyways-but this time he’s in some pretty dirty trouble.

Read on my friends…

Wouldn’t that make a great picture?  The current pope behind bars!  :)

Atheists Demand Pope’s Arrest In UK

Adam Kearney :: Tuesday, April 13th, 2010 4:00 pm

popeRichard Dawkins, the British scientist, proponent of atheism, and author ofThe God Delusion, has followed fellow atheist author Christopher Hitchens (God Is Not Great) in calling for the Pope’s arrest during a planned visit to the UK in September. After years of covering up child abuse scandals involving clergy of the Roman Catholic Church, they claim Pope Benedict XVI has committed “crimes against humanity,” specifically citing the recent unveiling of a letter signed by him asking for leniency in the charge against an American priest who molested two boys in 1985. This was written while Pope Benedict was head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith, the body responsible for investigating abuse cases, and that recently posted their Guide to Understanding Basic CDF Procedures Concerning Sexual Abuse Allegations on the Internet.

Dawkins and Hitchens have commissioned barrister Geoffrey Robertson and solicitor Mark Stephens to build a case against the Pope, hoping to use the same legal principle that allowed the arrest of Augusto Pinochet when he visited Britain in 1998. The barrier of diplomatic immunity, which is applied to all heads of state, should not be relevant in this case as the Vatican is not recognized as a sovereign state by the United Kingdom or the United Nations. In the UN it is granted observer status that only allows the Vatican to be signatories on treaties and to vote at conferences.

The lawyers will ask the Crown Prosecution Service to initiate criminal proceedings, and if that fails they will file their own civil suit as well as petitioning the International Criminal Court. A precedent for this type of action was established when a British judge issued an arrest warrant for Israeli politician Tzipi Livni for crimes committed in the Israeli attacks on Gaza in 2008. The politician canceled her visit to the UK and the arrest warrant was withdrawn.

Although the arrest of the Pope seems far-fetched, the activist movement sparked by the atheists’ call for legal action against the Pope will imbue the monstrous actions of these clergymen with the stigma of criminality they deserve, and they’ll make the government think twice before inviting this Pope to British soil to beatify the tombstones of 19th century cardinals.

Asshole of the week that received the most hits:

What a piece of shit. Look at the compassion of this woman. I understand the pressure David Vitter might be under in his role as a Senator, but town hall meetings are for dialogue such as the one shown in the video below.

“Senator, I’m a rape victim…I need to ask you-”

and the Senator continues walking to ignore this woman.

She managed to still catch up with him, where you can witness his response to her pleas.

As he walks away the same woman calls out,

“What if it was your daughter that was raped! Would you tell her to be quiet.”

Senator Vitter did not explain his stance on the issue concerning the woman, he simply brought “Obama” into the message. He points the finger at Obama and tries to take any responsibility off of himself. The woman points out that she is not “asking” Obama, but asking him. He doesn’t care.

Here is the asshole David Vitter again speaking on why the U.S. Census should exclude illegal aliens.

And my favorite quote from David Vitter thus far,

“We do not need international help to stop corruption, we need strong Louisiana Leadership.”

You might remember David Vitter from his past connections with the D.C. Madam.

Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) acknowledged Monday night that his number appears on telephone records of the alleged D.C. Madam, Deborah Jeane Palfrey, and issued an apology.

“This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible,” Vitter said in a statement released by his office.

“Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling,” he added. “Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there — with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way.”

Vitter did not disclose exactly when the incidents took place, but said it was before he ran for the Senate in 2004.

Vitter, 46, then became Louisiana’s first Republican senator since the end of Reconstruction and has built a reputation as a solid conservative, opposing abortion rights, same-sex marriage and gun control. Last month, he took a leading role in efforts to kill the comprehensive immigration overhaul bill.

A Harvard graduate and former Rhodes Scholar, he was elected to the House in 1999, filling the seat vacated by Rep. Bob Livingston, who was headed toward the House speakership in 1998 when he was forced to reveal his marital infidelities.

In 2000, Vitter was included in a Newhouse News Service story about the strain of congressional careers on families.

His wife, Wendy, was asked by the Newhouse reporter: If her husband were as unfaithful as Livingston or former President Bill Clinton, would she be as forgiving as Hillary Rodham Clinton?

“I’m a lot more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary,” Wendy Vitter told Newhouse News. “If he does something like that, I’m walking away with one thing, and it’s not alimony, trust me.”

“I think fear is a very good motivating factor in a marriage,” she added. “Don’t put fear down.”

Vitter briefly considered a run for governor but bowed out in May 2002, citing strains on his marriage. He announced that he and his wife had entered counseling.

“This wasn’t in response to any dramatic issue or event, but to the cumulative stress from working in a high-pressure job, living in two cities, building a house, raising four young kids including a newborn, having our campaign activities based at home and traveling the state considering running for governor,” Vitter said in the 2002 statement.

A week after the announcement, Vitter was forced to publicly address allegations that he had visited a New Orleans bordello, according to the Daily Advertiser in Lafayette, La. He denied the charge, calling it “a rumor and attack campaign” led by enemies to destroy his character and name.

In the run-up to his Senate campaign in 2004, Vitter was confronted again, this time on a talk radio show. And once again he called the allegations, circulated by political opponents, “absolutely and completely untrue.”

Vitter’s revelation Monday comes a month after Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt offered $1 million for information about illicit sexual relations with members of Congress. Flynt made a same pitch in October 1998, playing a role in Livingston’s outing.

Palfrey posted the complete phone records of her client list on the Internet Monday night. The list for Pamela Martin and Associates dates back to 1994.

She is accused of running a prostitution ring catering to Washington’s elite. She faces federal racketeering and conspiracy charges based on allegations that she earned $2 million operating a prostitution service from 1993 to 2006.

Palfrey, however, has said that her company was a legal operation that offered sexual fantasy services.

Her lawyer, Montgomery Blair Sibley, began distributing copies of the phone records to the media last week after a judge lifted an injunction that had previously prevented Palfrey from doing so.
